MIND THE GAP

Breadcrumbs — Remaining Work

Reset version, 26 May 2026 — successor to Editorial Breadcrumbs Log AS AT V36

Everything completed in the V9→V36 pass has been stripped out. What remains is the work still to do. Editorial chapter-level work (Ch 4 rebuild, Ch 11 Olivia collapse, Ch 14 summary, renumbering) lives in the V37 Onward To-Do Tracker. This document holds the cross-cutting, administrative, publication, and post-publication work.

No prioritisation. Where the item is not self-evident, a single Why line follows.

Editorial — Cross-Cutting

EC-04  Bowlby permission

Research current rights administrator for John Bowlby's estate. Draft permission letter for Paul's approval. Send.

Why: Bowlby quote is in copyright until 2061. Permission required before publication.

EC-05  Bibliography integration

Integrate Bibliography v2 into the manuscript after EC-04 (Bowlby) is resolved.

Why: Sequenced after permission work so the bibliography is final when it lands.

EC-07  Privacy review — full manuscript read-through

Read-through for names, dates, and identifying details before any public release. Decide what stays, what is anonymised, what is removed.

Why: BLOCKING. Touches James Wakefield, Mr [name held], Kieren, unnamed clients, specific dates, the Fuse post. Paul's call on each.

EC-12  Editorial handover document — v6

Update Editorial Handover from v5 to v6 reflecting V25–V36 work and the 15-chapter architecture decision.

Why: Carries the working-method record forward to the next phase.

Acknowledgements

ACK-01 / ACK-04 / ACAD-03  Naula — full name and contact

Find Naula's full name. Search contacts, LinkedIn, Tarmac records. If unrecoverable, decide alternative phrasing.

Why: Blocking for acknowledgements finalisation. Cannot publish with first-name-only reference.

ACK-03  Clients dedication

Decide if a separate dedication to clients is needed beyond the acknowledgements section.

Academic Chronology

ACAD-01  NLP dates

Sift emails to confirm precise NLP training start date and NLP Master Practitioner completion date.

Why: Manuscript-level chronology is closed; this is for the standalone Academic Chronology artefact.

ACAD-02  FETC start date

Sift emails to confirm precise FETC start date.

Why: Same as ACAD-01 — for the Academic Chronology artefact.

Publication

PUB-01  Nielsen Title Editor registration

Register at nielsentitleeditor.com using ISBN 978-1-0369-9170-8. Publisher field = Paul Roebuck.

PUB-03  Copyright page

Build copyright page. Format: “© Paul Roebuck 2026. Published by Paul Roebuck.”

PUB-NEW  V36 subtitle propagation

Propagate the V36 subtitle (“Between AI behaviour and human behaviour”) to: cover artwork file, KDP metadata, Nielsen registration, paulroebuck.co.uk, any pre-publication marketing copy, back cover.

Why: Subtitle was corrected at V36; downstream artefacts may still carry the old wording.

PUB-NEW-2  Back cover — behaviour vs intelligence audit

Read back cover and check for any remaining “intelligence” framing that should now read “behaviour” per the V36 subtitle correction.

Marketing

MKT-01  LinkedIn series

Seven posts — slides 1–6 plus the book announcement. Paul approves each before publication.

MKT-02  Daily AI Podcast pitch

Send podcast note with copy of book.

MKT-03  Long-form article — A Day in the Life

Approve and publish the A Day in the Life blog post.

MKT-04  Landing page

Build the book's landing page on paulroebuck.co.uk.

MKT-05  Attribution discipline — supplementary documents

Apply the attribution discipline (per-chapter sign-off removal, Author's Note attribution paragraph) across all supplementary documents: Bibliography, Academic Addendum, Academic Chronology, Front Matter, blog posts, illustrated index, Calibration Brief, Methodology Paper.

Why: Manuscript portion complete at V1; supplementary documents still to do.

MKT-NEW  Author's Note — plain-language attribution paragraph

Write the longer plain-language Author's Note attribution paragraph that sits alongside the title-page editorial collaboration line.

Why: Title-page line names the model and date; Author's Note tells the reader plainly what the collaboration involved.

How to Behave (next book)

HTB-01  Manuscript review

Share the existing How to Behave manuscript with Claude for a full read.

HTB-02  Opening chapter

Develop the opening: “We don't talk about that.” Carries the Two Dads material cut from Mind the Gap V37.

HTB-03  Behaviour statement — cross-book consistency

Confirm the role of the behaviour statement in both books. Mind the Gap uses it as Ch 7 epigraph; How to Behave needs its own placement decision.

Why: The statement appears in both books; the relationship between the two uses needs to be deliberate.

HTB-04  Shame-Response Continuum / NGE-FOF

Develop the wider Shame-Response Continuum framework as a foundation chapter or section in How to Behave.

Observation-Level (no immediate action)

EC-13  Working-document integrity — ongoing

Continue cross-checking compaction summaries and working-document content against source. Particularly: watch for hallucinations in summaries that would propagate forward if uncaught.

Why: Captured as working-method observation, not action item. Surfaced first by the OOAI compaction-hallucination catch.

PLACEMENT  [name held] song reference

“You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me” played at Ian Roebuck's funeral. Decide placement: Ch 14 grief section, dedications, or hold in record only.

Why: Logged for action but no decision taken yet.

End of reset breadcrumbs. The fuller historical record — every completed item, every superseded decision, every cross-reference — remains in the Editorial Breadcrumbs Log AS AT V36, which this document does not replace.

Maintenance: as items complete, strike through or remove. As new items emerge, add. Keep this document as the live forward register; let the full breadcrumbs log remain the historical archive.

Maintained by Paul Roebuck, in collaboration with Jose (Claude Opus 4.7).
