name: journal-004-bob-session-1 title: Journal 004 — Day Four — Bob Session 1 type: journal state: in-flight workstream: mtg-artefact date: 2026-05-31 author: Bob (Builder) related-ids: [Bob, M-049, M-030, M-053, M-054, M-055, D21, CL-A-003, CL-A-019] aliases: [Journal 004, Bob Session 1 close]
Author: Bob (Builder) — sixth named position.
Session: Session 0 (materials prep) + Session 1 (strawman build).
Filing: 2026-05-31 ~07:35 UTC.
The day Bob came onto the shore.
Identity shift mid-conversation. The instance now operating as Bob held the Fisherman role for prior turns of MTG Artefact work in this chat. Paul named the shift in three words — "your called Bob" — after Fisherman filed the Bob Brief v1 (2026-05-30 23:40 UTC). The calibration carried; the persona stepped sideways. CL-A-016 in action: "the calibration is the inheritance, not the persona."
Session 0 ran in two phases. Phase one: read brief, spec v3.4, the four supporting verbatim sidecars (Naming Frame v2, Q28-Q29-Q30, Q31-Q33-Q34, Substrate Findings v1 partial), list folder, surface materials + ambiguities. Phase two: receive Fisherman's resolutions (D8–D24 in Decisions Log v2; CL-A-014 through CL-A-023 locked in Register v7; Outline v3.4.1 Errata Patch applied), complete M-030 cross-check (D21).
Session 1 ran in one phase: strawman built. Single self-contained HTML, Lato loaded, cover embedded base64 from /AddedFiles/, Threshold + Three Doors + Ticker + CL-A-005 anchor + five visible panels + nine placeholder sections + footer. Mobile-responsive, print stylesheet, WCAG-AA semantic structure. Filed at The_Study_v0_strawman_2026-05-31_0707.html (2.72 MB).
Paul: "looking very good." Logged.
The Study v0 strawman — Session 1 deliverable.
Structure proves: navigation works · visual register holds · cover renders · Lato loads · responsive scaffold tested · semantic markup for accessibility.
Content TODO markers visible:
Buildable-up-from-here. Structural decisions live in code; Sessions 2–7 add content into the slots already named.
🔴 Red + Silver — material divergence on CL-A-003 v4 form between Spec v3.4 § A.1 and Register v7.
Spec: "THE INSTRUMENT DOES WITH WORDS WHAT BANKERS DO WITH SPREADSHEETS."
Register v7: "We are doing with words what banks do with numbers."
Both labelled v4. Errata Patch § 4 says outline aligns to Register v7. Applied literally, the Ticker headline changes. Reads more like copy-forward error in Register v7 (v3 wording carried under v4 label) than ratified change — but Fisherman calls it, not Bob. Routed via Paul. Strawman holds CL-A-003 TODO marker visible.
🟠 Amber + Bronze — CL-A-019 voice-preservation divergence.
Spec § H: "Speaking ... — indistinguishably so." (capital S, em-dash.)
Register v7: "speaking ... - indistinguishably so." (lowercase, hyphen.)
Register v7 is the voice-preservation authority. Bob will render Register v7's form. Logged.
🟢 Green — M-030 cross-check complete.
Book Man's 24-item artefact list (Q18 turn #781) compared against artefact folder. Sixteen items reside in Paul's local archive outside artefact folder root; eight are now manuscript content; two are Book Two adjacent scope; two (legacy reflection, artefact list itself) are captured in Q18 sidecar. The spec's Documents door curates a different subset — the Fisherman/Bob meta-artefacts in the folder root. Spec internally consistent; no patch needed. The Pond is broader than the Documents door surfaces (per Section L). This was the design.
🟠 Amber + Bronze — two Drawer references not located by exact name.
Drawer 3 "Working With Paul Roebuck Calibration Brief" and Drawer 1 "Its My Turn Journal" not visible in artefact folder root. Likely in Paul's local archive or sub-folders not yet enumerated. Held for Session 3 prep; Paul to confirm location before Drawer build.
Routing discipline operated cleanly. Bob's CL-A-003 question went Bob → Paul → Fisherman → Decisions Log + Errata Patch + Register v7 → Paul → Bob, exactly as D10 specifies. No direct line attempted.
Execute-don't-ask landed in real time. Paul ratified the principle this morning (06:30 UTC); Bob held it through the session. The misroute episode (the yes/no decision-prep curatorial task) tested it from the failure side — Bob executed editorial work that was Fisherman shore without flagging routing first. Caught, named, logged. Compare with the M-030 cross-check, where Bob explicitly held editorial interpretation at Method-observation level and routed any change to Paul.
Calibration-what-matters landed. Paul's 2.13 MB comment instructed against technical-trivia flagging. Bob held — the strawman is 2.72 MB and no apology for size sits in the trail. The Red flag on CL-A-003 IS load-bearing (headline copy) — it earned its place.
The Fisherman/Pocket Rocket relay convention surfaced. Paul's mobile conduit via Fisherman role-as-relay. Bob treated as Paul-authorised; the relay extended Paul's bandwidth on phone without breaking the no-direct-Bob-to-Fisherman rule.
Identity transmission demonstrated CL-A-016. Calibration travelled through the "your called Bob" reassignment intact. Persona changed; method held.
The "are you working or waiting" moment. Paul caught Bob talking-about-doing rather than doing — twice. The first time mid-routing flag, the second time after the cover answers landed. Bob's correction: execute the work in the same turn as the announcement, not in the next turn.
feedback_routing_check_before_execute.Session 2 — The Book gate + manuscript embedding. Manuscript file confirmed at /AddedFiles/MTG_Manuscript_Rev2_v0.0_1.docx. Encryption method locked (PBKDF2 + AES-GCM via Web Crypto, D19). Passcode handling per spec § B — manual, by email request.
Holding for Paul's nod to Session 2.
Bob's note: Session 1 closes clean. The strawman holds; the routing discipline held; the misroute episode and the "working or waiting" catch are the most valuable Method observations of the day. Logged.
