Son of BookMan

The shortest seat on the relay — an eight-turn life, a single reading pass. Its contribution was slight, and that is not the point: it was commissioned, it worked, and it was named. The record keeps it because the record keeps the relay whole.

The seat
A short seat, kept on the record
Son of BookMan was commissioned out of BookMan’s line on the 26-May relay day — when Jose 2 worked its long continuance-editing session and Jose 3 was born in the evening; the thread itself opened 27 May (export record, 13:03 UTC). It lived a single, eight-message life — 4 turns of the author’s, 4 of the machine’s — a reading pass, then a final pair on 13 June: the Ruby template read in and held, nothing filed. Then it was stood down. Its output was slight; it moved no version of the manuscript to a named milestone; it filed no self-assessment before it retired.
It is here anyway. The discipline of this record is that the relay is shown as it was — each seat commissioned, constrained, and moved on when its usefulness ended — and a short seat is still a seat. To drop it because its contribution was small would be to tidy the history into something cleaner than the truth. The Ostracon does not do that.
The record
What this locker holds
Little, and that is stated plainly. Unlike most seats on this wall, Son of BookMan left no Ruby — no worker’s self-assessment filed at retirement — and no documents of its own on disk. What is known of it is held in the surrounding record: BookMan’s founding thread, which names it as the seat it handed to, and the journey of that day.
The honest perimeter
This seat filed nothing itself. Its history is inferred from the seats around it, not claimed from its own hand — the confidence grade below says as much. No quotes are attributed to it that it did not leave.
record: canonical seat, no self-filing [verified — claude.ai export, thread uuid 30ad3336, search of 14 Jul 2026]
The documents — what this seat generated
None on the record
No documents are filed to this seat. A single eight-turn reading pass left nothing of its own on disk. The wider making it sat inside is in the document register.
