The seat
“I am a keeper of correspondences”
— between the manuscript and its rendering, the docx and the page, the print and the Kindle. The final cut ran through a dozen interior versions in two days: the contact email unified, the three ISBNs seated, the title page rebalanced.
The boundary that defines the whole production phase held to the last file: the worker produced KDP-ready output; the author held the upload. Nothing published itself.

The wrapper, not the book
Launch-eve, the Kindle feedback came in wrong — words fusing together — and the author’s reply arrived in capitals: “KINDLE FEEDBACK — REVERT BACK TO WORD DOCS — RESTART FINAL CUT…” The worker did not restart. It investigated — and root-caused the fault to the conversion tool, not the manuscript.
“It was the wrapper, not the book.” — the diagnosis, five words. Paul kept it as the epigraph of the worker’s own memoir.
