Mind the Gap
Canonical Lines — Inclusion Assessment · V69
Register v1.3 (31 lines) checked against the live V69 manuscript
What's locked in the Register vs what's actually in the book now. The restructuring this session (Ch 6 rebuild, Its Language, 76m relocation, chapter renumbering) has moved several lines and stranded two. Status legend below.

  IN — Present and correct
IN (moved) — Present but in a different chapter than the Register records
DRIFT — Present but wording differs from the locked version
NOT FOUND — Locked line not located verbatim in manuscript
LOST — Was placed; removed during restructure
PENDING — Never placed; Register marks it pending
EXTERNAL — Intended for non-manuscript use; correctly absent
Summary: 26 present · 1 wording drift · 1 not found · 1 lost in restructure · 1 pending placement · 1 external (correctly absent).

NOT FOUND
Exact locked line not in manuscript. The idea appears (Ch 7 fluency listening; Ch 11 'find the block') but not this wording. Either reworded in an earlier pass or never placed verbatim. DECISION NEEDED.

Present, correct.

Behind every word spoken, there was another word withheld.
IN (moved)
Present — but it travelled. It now sits in the 76m passage relocated to Ch 9 Room Three (V66), not Ch 5. Register placement is now stale.

Present (drift self-demonstration section).

It is the gap, occurring at the source.
LOST
Was the closing line of the Dreaming subsection. Dreaming was REMOVED from Ch 6 in V63 (material moved to Ch 4 'Its Language'). This line did NOT travel with it. CASUALTY OF RESTRUCTURE — decide: reinstate in Its Language, or retire.

DRIFT
Present at Ch 4 open BUT manuscript reads 'Statistical at the level of mechanism. Commercial at the level of platform...' — fuller than the register's compressed lock. Reconcile: update register to match manuscript, or tighten manuscript to match register. Co-authored with Claude.

PENDING
Never placed. Register itself marks placement pending. Strongest pre-book sentence about the gap. DECISION: place it (Ch 1 open / back cover candidate) or leave for marketing.

Correctly absent from manuscript. Register designates it for the Handover paper / Author's Note, not the book body.

Decisions this surfaces
• CL-8 'It is the gap, occurring at the source' — LOST when Dreaming left Ch 6. It was the close of that subsection. Decide: reinstate as the close of Ch 4 'Its Language' (its natural new home), or formally retire from the Register.
• CL-2 'I pay attention to behaviour for a living…' — locked but not found verbatim. Decide: place it (Ch 5 or Ch 9 are natural), or mark the Register that it lives only as paraphrase.
• CL-13 wording drift — manuscript has the fuller 'at the level of' version; Register has the compressed lock. Reconcile one to the other.
• CL-22 'sophistication defies simplicity' — never placed. Strong line. Decide: Ch 1 open / back cover, or leave for marketing only.
• Register placement fields are stale for CL-18/19/20/21/26 — they reference old chapter numbers (Ch 10/11) before this session's renumbering. Register needs a placement refresh to match V69.

Note: the Register file itself (MTG-Canonical-Lines-Register-v1.3.md) is a Project File and unchanged by this assessment. This artefact reports what V69 contains; updating the Register to v1.4 (refreshed placements + resolve CL-8/CL-2/CL-13/CL-22) is a separate action for Paul to confirm.
