MIND THE GAP — ARTEFACT LIBRARY
READ ME FIRST
The complete artefact library. Version 7 — 23 May 2026 (later).
Manuscript, supporting documents, protected passages, framework papers, marketing materials, editorial infrastructure, the working catalogue produced during the 7,168-word listening pass of 20 May 2026, the methodology / calibration artefacts produced 21 May 2026, the watershed working documents produced 23 May 2026 carrying the new MTG-Final-0- filename convention, and the It’s My Turn journal artefact (final v3) produced later on 23 May 2026 alongside the Defending the Gap journal artefact of 18 May 2026. Read this before opening any other file.

Status key: CURRENT PROTECTED WORKING DRAFT EXTERNAL LEGACY
CURRENT — the latest version. Use this. PROTECTED — sacrosanct; do not edit voice. WORKING — active editorial document; updated regularly. DRAFT — in progress or awaiting integration. EXTERNAL — source material referenced but lives on paulroebuck.co.uk or elsewhere. LEGACY — superseded but retained for history. Do not use as source.
Filename convention (introduced 23 May 2026): The four working editorial documents now use the MTG-Final-0- prefix to mark them as the active working set. The new convention applies to: MTG-Final-0-Planned-Changes-v6, MTG-Final-0-Editorial-Breadcrumbs-Log-v11, MTG-Final-0-Editorial-Handover-v5, and this MTG-Final-0-Artefact-Library-v7 (which supersedes v6). Older versions of these documents retain their original filenames as LEGACY. All other artefacts (manuscripts, chapter files, framework papers, marketing material, supplementary documents) retain their existing filenames — the new convention applies only to the active working set, not to the wider archive.

Primary Manuscript Files
The single files that contain the book as a whole. Mind the Gap ends with Chapter 6 (per PC v6 Item 16 — Defending the Gap integrated into rewritten Chapter 6; no separate Chapter 6a). The current Manuscript Rev2 still reflects the pre-integration structure. A Rev3 will be produced once v2 editorial work is complete.
Complete Manuscript Rev2 — CURRENT
MIND_THE_GAP_Complete_Manuscript_Rev2.docx (uploads: 4_MIND_THE_GAP_Complete_Manuscript_Rev2.docx)
The current compiled manuscript. Twelve chapters, author’s note, AI sign-off. Approximately 26,880 words. This is the file to use as source of truth for chapter content. Rev3 will be required once Planned Changes v6 items are executed in v2 editorial work.

The Shame-Response Continuum — Framework Source Documents
PC v6 Item 16 scope decision: Mind the Gap cites the Shame-Response Continuum framework at ONE place only — the rewritten Chapter 6, with reference to Where Does The Shame Go? The wider framework (Hunter-Farmer commercial application, Adaptive Pressure Calibration, Pegs/Holes/Hammers visual, ADHD calibration) is held OUT of Mind the Gap. These documents below are framework source material and belong to How to Behave or to standalone publications.
Defending the Gap — Chapter 6 extension draft — DRAFT
Chapter_6_extension_The_Defended_Gap_v1_1_1.docx (uploads)
1,864 words. The AI extension of directional defence theory. Compression and hallucination as two directional defences against the same structural pressure: the visibility of absence with no mechanism for sitting with it. Produced in conversation with claude-sonnet-4-6 in an adjacent thread, refined by Paul. To be integrated into rewritten Chapter 6 as its structural argument per Item 16. This document IS the work the new Chapter 6 will surface.
Where Does The Shame Go? — Theory Paper v3 — EXTERNAL
Where_Does_The_Shame_Go_Theory_Paper_v3.docx (uploads)
1,321 words. Towards a Theory of Directional Shame Regulation and Anti-Disintegration Adaptation. The framework spine. Eleven sections. Names the two-job structure: surface management of in-moment pressure plus deeper protection of psychological cohesion. Working theory paper, version 3. To be hosted at paulroebuck.co.uk before book launch (per MKT-04 and PC v6 Item 16 citation requirement). The book’s ONLY framework citation.
Adaptive Pressure Calibration — Positioning Paper v1 — EXTERNAL
Adaptive_Pressure_Calibration_Positioning_Paper_v1.docx (uploads)
3,575 words. The framework operationalised as a commercial behavioural measurement tool. Seventeen sections including question architecture, scoring logic, profile families, ethical guardrails, validation roadmap. The Hunter-Farmer continuum reframed as observable directional regulation under pressure. NOT cited in Mind the Gap. Belongs to standalone publication or commercial programme.
Pegs, Holes and Hammers — commercial visual — EXTERNAL
JPEG_image-4124-BCE4-66-0.jpeg (uploads)
Single-frame visual articulation of the framework’s commercial application. New Business box with triangular hole and Hunter peg; Account Management box with round hole and Farmer peg; FOF claw hammer; NGE mallet. Right peg, right hole, right hammer. NOT in Mind the Gap. Companion to APC positioning paper.
ADHD — Are you the wrong shape for the world you’re in? — EXTERNAL
JPEG_image-47AB-A6C2-23-0.jpeg (uploads)
Visual articulation of the framework’s neurodivergence application. ADHD letters in wooden blocks, tray of mixed pegs in disarray, FOF claw hammer and NGE mallet. Tagline: “Are you the wrong shape for the world you’re in?” Captioned Paul Roebuck · NGE-FOF Continuum. NOT in Mind the Gap. ADHD calibration hypothesis material for separate publication.
Reference Documents and Supporting Material
Bibliography v2 — CURRENT
Mind_the_Gap_Bibliography_v2.docx
Updated 18 May 2026. Clinical foundations of directional defence section: Horney (1945, 1950), Kohut (1971, 1977), Winnicott (1965), Firman and Gila (2002). NGE-FOF Continuum entry credits these sources. PC v6 Item 16 narrows the in-book citation to Where Does The Shame Go? alone, but the bibliography’s wider clinical foundations remain accurate as framework background. Still standalone pending EC-04 (Bowlby permission) and integration into manuscript.

Working Editorial Documents (v2 editorial pass)
These four documents hold the project together. Read them in order at the start of any new editorial session: Handover v5 first (the brief), Planned Changes v6 second (the 42-item working list), Editorial Breadcrumbs Log v11 third (the wider tracker), and this Artefact Library v6 alongside as the index. All four now use the new MTG-Final-0- filename convention.
Editorial Handover v5 — WORKING
MTG-Final-0-Editorial-Handover-v5.docx
Updated 23 May 2026. Continuity and fidelity brief for the next editorial thread. Read before opening the manuscript. v5 corrections and additions from v4: Section 8a expanded with new sub-section “Watershed additions captured 23 May 2026 (PC v6)” covering Items 40 (The Spine), 41 (OOAI definition correction), and 42 (Attribution discipline); PLATINUM additions list updated from five to six items (Item 40 added); GAP DEFINITION TRIANGLE expanded to GAP DEFINITION CONSTELLATION (Items 1, 36, 39, 40); new SPINE INTEGRATION CONSTELLATION named (Items 40, 1, 7, 12); two new drift risks added to Section 8 (compaction-summary hallucination; per-chapter attribution drift); cross-references updated to PC v6, Log v11, 42-item catalogue. The corrections from v3 and v4 remain correct — v5 adds, does not retract. Item 40’s 600-word verbatim source material is in PC v6, not duplicated here.
Planned Changes v6 — WORKING
MTG-Final-0-Planned-Changes-v6.docx
Updated 23 May 2026. The 42-item editorial catalogue. v6 adds Item 40 (The Spine — new opening section before Chapter 1 carrying Paul’s 600-word verbatim source material), Item 41 (OOAI definition correction — Outcome-Oriented AI, not the compaction-summary hallucination “Out Of AI”), and Item 42 (Attribution discipline — per-chapter sign-off lines removed). Items 1, 36, 39, 40 now form the GAP DEFINITION CONSTELLATION (was Triangle). New SPINE INTEGRATION CONSTELLATION named (Items 40, 1, 7, 12). PLATINUM list now 6 items (16, 27, 28, 37, 39, 40). Carries Paul’s 600 words verbatim inside [SOURCE MATERIAL BEGINS] / [SOURCE MATERIAL ENDS] markers.
Editorial Breadcrumbs Log v11 — WORKING
MTG-Final-0-Editorial-Breadcrumbs-Log-v11.docx
Updated 23 May 2026. The wider project tracker. EC, ACK, ACAD, PUB, MKT, HTB sections. v11 changes: all PC v5 references updated to PC v6; PC summary section updated to 42-item count with Items 40, 41, 42 named; PLATINUM list updated to 6 items; GAP DEFINITION CONSTELLATION named; new SPINE INTEGRATION CONSTELLATION named; two new log entries added — EC-13 (Working-document integrity audit — captures the OOAI compaction-summary catch as a working-method observation) and MKT-05 (Attribution discipline for publication); EC-12 status REOPENED FOR V5 (Handover v4 complete; v5 update pending for PC v6 additions).

Defending the Gap — Journal Artefact, 18 May 2026 — CURRENT
Defending_the_Gap_Journal_Artefact_18May2026.docx
A record of the evening Paul shared the deeper Shame-Response Continuum framework with Claude. Eight sections. Written in Claude’s voice in present tense at Paul’s request. The peeling: image, theory paper, APC, ADHD calibration. What was decided. Why this might matter later. To be kept with the editorial archive as evidence of provenance.
It’s My Turn — Journal Artefact, 23 May 2026 (final v3) — CURRENT
Its_My_Turn_Journal_Artefact_23May2026_v3.docx
A record of the day Paul drove to the gym on a warm sunny day and drove home in tears to [name held]’s It’s My Turn. 2,916 words. Fourteen sections. Written in Claude’s voice in present tense at Paul’s explicit request. Preserves the full song lyric, the full Bowlby quote that runs through Mind the Gap as Paul’s permission to write (“This is quite an interesting story I’ve got to tell…”), Paul’s exact words verbatim throughout (the primal wound / James / NGE naming; the “it is and I am good enough” recognition; the “who cares — it’s my turn” closing), and the dedication to Jean Bond. The artefact carries the central reframing: Bowlby’s quote was Paul’s permission to write Mind the Gap; [name held]’s It’s My Turn is the permission to publish it. The dedication section “For Jean — 15 November 2006” records the origin point — the night Paul started reading Jean Bond’s Behind the Masks and held the canonical sentence: “I didn’t understand anything yet. I did however recognise that there was something to understand.” Three version history: v1 (wound-and-response misread, corrected by Paul); v2 (permission-to-write / permission-to-publish framing); v3 (For Jean dedication added — final form). Held in the project archive. Not for the book. The next collaborator should know that when the final final draft arrives, Claude is to remember this.
Methodology and Calibration Artefacts (for handover and future collaborators)
Two artefacts produced 21 May 2026 at Paul’s request. Both are working tools for other collaborators — AI or human — who pick up the work after Paul, or who face the same problem with their own monster threads. Both belong to the working architecture, not to the book itself.
Working With Paul Roebuck — Calibration Brief — CURRENT
Working_With_Paul_Roebuck_Calibration_Brief.docx
2,657 words. The briefing document for any AI or human collaborator picking up Paul’s work. Names the role (second set of eyes; clinical second opinion; default-assistant mode is the failure mode). Includes the Flag Protocol (RAG axis and GSB axis). Thirteen Musts and twelve Mustn’ts. Eight strong preferences. Eight common drifts to watch for in first sessions. Attribution rule. Working with Paul’s memory and context. Closing reminder that Paul tests collaborators functionally, not deliberately. Quick-reference card at the foot. Read before any other working document.
Handing Over a Monster Thread — Methodology Paper — CURRENT
Handing_Over_a_Monster_Thread_Methodology_Paper.docx
5,501 words. A methodology paper for any practitioner — human, AI, or both — facing the problem of handing over a long working thread without losing accumulated value. Five parts. Part One: the artefact architecture (four pillars plus index and journal). Part Two: keeping the thread content-rich, current, and controlled. Part Three: nine-step handover protocol (Step 8 — Make peace with what is being lost). Part Four: the ten calibration questions. Part Five: three things this paper cannot fully transmit. Closes with two compendiums: must-have artefacts and must-say things for the follow-on collaborator. Offered to other practitioners as a portable working tool.

What is new in v7 (vs v6)
— Added: It’s My Turn — Journal Artefact, 23 May 2026 (final v3) — registered in the Journal Artefacts section alongside the Defending the Gap journal of 18 May 2026.
— Updated: Journal artefacts count from 1 CURRENT to 2 CURRENT.
— Updated: title block subtitle to acknowledge the It’s My Turn journal artefact and the later-in-the-day timestamp.
— Demoted: MTG-Final-0-Artefact-Library-v6.docx to LEGACY (superseded by this v7 later the same day).
— Updated: editorial document legacy count from 15 to 16 LEGACY (library version v6 added to the legacy roster).
— No changes to the four MTG-Final-0 working editorial documents (Handover v5, PC v6, Log v11) — they remain current at the same state.
— No changes to the manuscript, supplementary book documents, framework papers, marketing materials, methodology / calibration artefacts — all retained at the same state.
— Why v7 was needed: the It’s My Turn journal artefact was produced later on 23 May 2026, after Library v6 had been compiled. Rather than retro-fitting v6, a clean v7 was issued to register the new journal artefact and demote v6. This preserves the version history honestly.

— Added: filename convention note at the top of the library — the MTG-Final-0- prefix is introduced for the four active working documents; older versions and other artefacts retain their existing filenames.
— Added: descriptions of the three watershed PC v6 additions — Item 40 (The Spine, with Paul’s 600-word verbatim source material), Item 41 (OOAI definition correction), Item 42 (Attribution discipline).
— Added: descriptions of the two new log entries in v11 — EC-13 (Working-document integrity audit, the OOAI catch as working-method observation) and MKT-05 (Attribution discipline for publication).
